Review: Elliot Stabler Returns To Law & Order
The long-awaited return of Detective Elliot Stabler to Law & Order is finally upon us. His departure from SVU was both shocking and disappointing. As a long-time fan of the series, I loved the dynamic that was Stable and Benson. Unfortunately, this reunion left fans completely shocked and in disbelief.
In this crossover episode, Elliot and his wife Kathy return to NY to attend an event honoring Olivia Benson. As Kathy approaches their rental vehicle, an explosion occurs and she is seriously injured. Oliva is called to the scene and immediately realizes who the victim him and is left in total shock. Detective Stabler and Olivia are all of a sudden face to face for the first time in 10 years. I was expecting some sort of embrace but they both just stood there in shock.
At the precinct, Stabler requests to speak to the main suspect and surprisingly, Olivia approves. Those of us who are avid fans of SUV know Stabler is hot-tempered and has never shied away from ruffing up a suspect. In this case, the victim was his wife so I eagerly waiting to see whether Stabler would put the suspect’s head through the wall. Unfortunately, he did not because Olivia is the boss and handled the situation before it got out of control. Stable later calls Benson and tells her the devastating news. Kathy’s spleen ruptured and though doctors attempted to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.
As a fan of Detective Stabler, I was both in shock and saddened by this event. I also know that he will turn every stone to find out who’s responsible for his wife’s murder and bring them to justice, the Stabler way.
